What are some tips for making a good experimental film?

I wanted to make a experimental short film,but I don't know where to begin. Would I go about it as if I am doing a drama,romance,or thriller? Is there a different way to go about it? What are some things to do or not to do? If you could give some tips or recommend some good experimental films then I would appreciate it.|||take time to make the movie and add alot of effects so its draatic and not boring. and make sure when viewed, people dont fall asleep. Find their interests eg. drama, comedy
