Is it possible to become a film director without knowing how to write a script?

Basically my question is do you have to know how to write a script to become a film director?|||It is possible. In fact, it's recommended.

Directors do NOT need to know how to write screenplays at all (contrary to the other answer here: directors are RARELY writers/directors/producers. RARELY.). What a director needs is the ability to visualize, manage, and babysit.|||It would be good to be able to write scripts, especially today when Directors are often the writers/producers of their films (in order to have more creative control)

But you definitely don't have to know how to write scripts, they're completely different jobs.|||Yeah, it's possible. So many Indian film directors do not know to write scripts. They depend on story writers to make script/ screenplay/ dialogs.
